Trouble with Sid again...

Sid can make things like brushing your teeth really hard for some people not that Tic doesn't also make it hard for brushing your teeth for a different reason. However with Sid (for those of you who are new Sid is our Sensory disorder/ Sensory issue Alien) things get a bit complicated as this task gets 10x more complicated. For people who are BFF with Sid they may struggle with gaging or even vomit or find this task painful and uncomfortable during these kinds of tasks and for this it it may be easier to switch toothpastes or try a mild tasting mouthwash (something is better then nothing) getting out of the bathroom may also help as the smell can also be a factor along with taste and texture. Personally the artist also finds the use of sea bands (an acupressure band that you wear on your wrist to help suppress your gag reflex and that helps a lot) working with an Occupational therapist and Speech therapist can also be helpful and so can things such as compression and pressure therapy items (like weights on the wrists and a weighted vest the Artist actually uses a weighted running vest and ankle weights on her wrists sometimes but because she is sensory avoidant the texture of the ankle weights was an issue and she wears DIY sleeves under them from fabric she can touch). Some of the dental products that the artist personally uses that are the least problematic are Alcohol free Bubblegum Kids mouthwash, the Dental Floss Picks, and Kids Crest Sparkle Cavity Protection and the soft toothbrushes. Something is always better then nothing and you don't have to use any one product just you are an adult or "too old" if it works use it there is no shame there.
